The 20th National Conference with International, Scientific and Informal Participation, organized by the Centre for Mountain Economy – CE-MONT Vatra Dornei

On 23–24 July 2026, the 20th National Scientific Conference on Mountain Economy, with international participation, will be held in Vatra Dornei, Romania. The event is organized by the Centre for Mountain Economy (CE-MONT), a research unit of the “Costin C. Kirițescu” National Institute for Economic Research, Romanian Academy.

“Sustainable and Resilient Development of Romania’s Mountain Areas in the Context of a Continuously Changing Multipolar World – A Mountain Economy Dedicated to Human Well-being and Health”

The conference is organized by the Centre for Mountain Economy (CE-MONT), Vatra Dornei, a research centre of the “Costin C. Kirițescu” National Institute for Economic Research of the Romanian Academy.

Conference Format and Venue

The conference will be held in a hybrid format (on-site and online participation).

On-site sessions will take place in the conference hall of the Centre for Mountain Economy (CE-MONT), 49 Petreni Street, 725700 Vatra Dornei, Suceava County, Romania.

Scientific Topics

The conference offers an interdisciplinary platform for presenting research results and exchanging knowledge on the sustainable development of mountain areas. Contributions (theoretical, methodological and applied) are welcome in the following areas:

  1. Multifunctional mountain agriculture – mountain farming between tradition and smart transformation;
  2. Human capital, labour economics, the economy of value, mountain entrepreneurship and future professions in the era of robotics, digitalisation and artificial intelligence – new models for socio-economic revitalisation of mountain rural communities;
  3. Mountain bioeconomy, biodiversity conservation, environmental protection and ecosystem services as fundamental elements for the stability and continuity of mountain settlements;
  4. Integrated territorial development of mountain areas – from conceptual approaches to applicable solutions at micro-regional level;
  5. Policies and support measures for mountain areas and the reduction of territorial disparities;
  6. Mountain culture, education and identity as factors supporting the stability and continuity of mountain communities;
  7. Components and specific features of the economic, social and cultural development of rural mountain areas in the Romanian Carpathians.

Publication Opportunities

Presented papers may be submitted for publication in the Journal of Montology (J-MONT) or in partner international journals, including Journal of Risk and Financial Management and IETI Transactions on Data Analysis and Forecasting.
