In 2008, at the initiative of the Economic, Legal and Sociological Sciences Section of the Romanian Academy, the first scientific montanological research entity, “Centrul de Economie Montană, CE-MONT“, was created within National Institute of Economic Research “Costin C. Kiriţescu” (INCE).
Through the implementation of a POSCCE project, the Vatra Dornei headquarters was created – a modern building with research laboratories with state-of-the-art technical equipment, conference and seminar rooms, spaces intended for in-depth studies as well as appropriate administrative spaces.
CE-MONT PROJECT
On December 9, 2015, the CE-MONT Mountain Economy Center was inaugurated in Vatra Dornei, Romania. CE-MONT is the only research center for the mountain economy in South-Eastern Europe. Its aim is to strengthen research capacity in areas such as the economy of mountain areas, agriculture and food security.
The center is located in the Romanian mountain area, in a region famous for the quality of dairy products and spa tourism. The total investment was financed from ERDF funds and the Government of Romania. The center has 12 research laboratories, a 200-seat conference hall, a library, a small printing house and 2 mobile laboratories for field work.
The aim of CE-MONT is to stimulate regional cooperation and to become “a pole of excellence” for the Carpatho-Balkan mountain area.
