ESTABLISHMENT

In 2008, at the initiative of the Economic, Legal and Sociological Sciences Section of the Romanian Academy, the first scientific entity for mountain research was created, the Centrul de Economie Montană, CE-MONT‘, within National Institute of Economic Research “Costin C. Kiriţescu” (INCE).

Through the implementation of a POSCCE project, the Vatra Dornei headquarters was built – a modern building with research laboratories with state-of-the-art technical equipment, conference and seminar rooms, spaces intended for in-depth studies as well as appropriate administrative spaces.

General objective

Consolidation / development of the fundamental scientific research capacity, theoretical and of multi-inter and transdisciplinary application type, of the National Institute of Economic Research – INCE, by creating the infrastructure and developing the competences of the Montana Economy Center “CE -MONT”  (established by the approval of the Presidium of the Romanian Academy on December 17, 2008) in areas of the economy specific to mountain areas, focusing on agriculture in rural mountain households and the mountain environment, increasing the productivity of private mountain agricultural holdings with prospects of development, of entities that capitalize on quality mountain products and those that generate jobs and thus ensure food safety and security for approximately 3 million people living in the mountains of Romania and reduce the gaps compared to the average productivity in the European Union.

Specific objectives

Specific objective no. 1: Development of Research infrastructure – Development of INCE, by creating the infrastructure of the Mountain Economy Center as a decentralized R-D unit, with the aim of increasing research capacity and the degree of scientific competitiveness at national and international level, in the field of the economy of mountain areas, agriculture, safety and food security.

Specific objective no. 2: Inventory of competences: researchers, specialists, with accumulated knowledge and research in order to know the zonal specificity of agriculture and the economy of approx. 950,000 mountain households in the Romanian Carpathians. Researching innovative methods and techniques to increase labor productivity in mountain households, the degree of hygiene and food security, in balance with the mountain environment and guaranteeing sustainability. The study of associative forms, with the selection of those performing in mountain areas. The analysis and selection of positive externalities – in line with the progress of research in the E.U. in the field.
